HOW TO GET HERE
See you in Transylvania
DIVERSE OFFER
ENTRY POINTS
We know that sometimes when travelling the shortest route to your destination is preferred over a tedious journey with multiple stopovers. Although Transylvania is still well off the beaten path it can easily be reached from western Europe by plane or train. Its two main entry points are the cities of Cluj-Napoca and Sibiu. As we run our cycling tours in their greater areas, we want to help you plan your perfect trip right from the beginning, so below you can find multiple options of coming over both by plane or by train.
BY PLANE
Sibiu can be reached from London Luton, Madrid, Dublin, Frankfurt Hahn, Karlsruhe, Memminge, Dortmund, or Nurnberg with Wizzair, from Munich with Lufthansa or Tarom, from Vienna with Austrian Airlines and from Venetia treviso, Bruxelles Charleroi and Liverpool with Ryanair.
Sibiu airport website - https://www.sibiuairport.ro/en/
Cluj-Napoca has an even more varied offer. Wizz Air flies over from lots of places in Europe, like London Luton, Birmingham, Doncaster/Sheffield and Liverpool in the UK; many Spanish, Italian, German or French cities, including Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Milan, Berlin, Cologne or Paris.
Cluj-Napoca airport website - https://www.airportcluj.ro/
You can also reach Cluj from London Stansted with Ryanair, from Munich or Frankfurt with Lufthansa, from Warsaw with LOT Polish and from Istanbul with Turkish Airlines Airlines.
BY TRAIN
Both cities can be reached from Budapest, Hungary and Vienna, Austria by train.
BY BUS
We don't recommend travelling by bus as the journeys are usually long and uncomfortable. Not all bus companies leave from the same bus stations in cities and the tickets cannot be bought online or in advance.
FROM BUCHAREST
By plane:
You can fly to Cluj-Napoca from Bucharest with Tarom and Hisky.
By train:
Both Sibiu and Cluj-Napoca can be reached by train from Bucharest with the Romanian Railways Company (https://www1.cfrcalatori.ro/en/). There are several trains a day to both cities. It takes about 5 hours to Sibiu and 10 hours to Cluj-Napoca.
RENTING A CAR
Renting a car may be a very good option. This way the places which are not well connected by public transport can be reached fast and in comfort. All big international renting companies are present in airports and cities.
