Private and tailor-made cycling tours in Transylvania

The best things Transylvania can offer are magical nature, cultural heritage and local people that still live and work their land with traditional methods.

We strongly believe you can't have an authentic experience in a big group, that's why we focus on small ones of 2 to 6 people. We offer one day cycling trips and totally custom-made multi-days tours perfectly tailored to your interests.  Tourism is not developed in rural areas of Romania, and our goal is to address this matter in a way that supports local communities and help them grow in the right direction.

Top trip through Transylvania We didn't know what to expect, we'd cycled in France, Slovenia and Croatia but Romania was new to us. Our concerns, in no particular order were; dogs, the roads, accommodation, and finding restaurants. There are loads of dogs, none of them were ever aggressive, our concerns were entirely misplaced. With the exception of a few stretches of the road from Sibiu out to our 1st night's accommodation, they were all fine. We went miles barely seeing another vehicle. Romanian drivers were more considerate than UK ones. The guys at Transylvania cycling sent us GPX files of our routes, their selections worked really well with a good mixture of quiet roads, graveled lanes and forest tracks. The final day we spent mainly off-road in a forest, it was excellent and a perfect place for a picnic lunch. Each night the route ended immediately outside our accommodation, which was useful as none of the hotels/guest houses have signs up so finding them otherwise is a mission, it worked fine. The accommodation was also excellent. Clean rooms, interesting places, good food. The Bio-Diversity farm was a particular treat. Joseph, the owner took us on a tour to see his rare breed cattle, I'd definitely go back there for a longer stay. If you don't eat where you stay you'd struggle to eat anywhere else, there aren't roadside bars or restaurants, but, in a way this made it more interesting. The food everywhere was good. We were on a non-guided route. The Transylvania team took endless trouble ensuring that the route matched our wishes. The ascent of the Transfargasson highway looks intimidating but in reality it's a consistent 7% climb for about 3.5 hours, just a grind but well worth doing. The routes were all a good mix of climbs and flat riding. There were 3 of us, one on a pedal bike 2 on e-bikes. Charging batteries was no problem. Security was no problem, everywhere felt remarkably safe. We flew into Sibiu. The flight was early arriving and departing. The airport was a cheap 15 min taxi ride from Sibiu centre, a really nice city with great restaurants, squares, cathedral, old city etc. I'd thoroughly recommend cycling in Romania and I'd thoroughly recommend Transylvania cycling.

Tremendous Transylvania June 2023 - My husband & I and 2 close friends from New Zealand spent 8 wonderful days cycling though the beautiful countryside of Saxon, Transylvania, Romania. We four have organised many cycling trips independently, however, we could never have organised a trip like this by ourselves. We can see why Transylvania Cycling have a 100%, '5 out of 5' star rating as this trip exceeded our expectations! Mihai and Adrian were truly exceptional tour guides - they were informative and passionate about Romania and so easy to be with. From pick up on Day 1 we had an amazing fully guided and catered for 8 days of cycling & sightseeing in 'stand out' countryside & villages. We would thoroughly recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys cycling and wants to see the real Romania. Be assured you will be in great company.

A week to remember Our group of four spent a magnificent week with Mihai and Adrian cycling through the Saxon Transylvania countryside and discovering the Saxon fortified castles. This tour was without doubt one of the most enjoyable and interesting things we have ever done. The riding was great - the roads were pretty quiet and the spectacular scenery ever-present. However, it soon became evident that this was as much a gastronomic experience as a cycling one! The lunch and dinner places they took us to were, without exception, fantastic with plentiful helpings from a fresh menu as many were biofarms. The accommodation places were magnificent. They were all luxurious and spacious. We had room to unwind each evening and an en suite bathroom in every place. The places we visited were all extremely interesting and we got a good dose of local knowledge to accompanying them. The guys were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and thoughtful at all times. Everything was taken care of with great foresight and planning. They even got down and cleaned up our bikes after the rains. In my opinion I don’t think there was anything they could have done better and by the end of our time we were very sad to say goodbye to the two of them. This is a trip I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone contemplating doing something a little different but in real style. Great biking, great scenery, great food, great company - what more could you wish for?

Unforgettable experience Our Saxon Transylvania tour was an unforgettable experience for all the right reasons. The tour is great value – expertly organised with quality accommodation and fabulous food … and no stress! Everything was taken care of by our excellent guides Mihai and Adrian ... so we were able to relax, pedal and soak it all up. The roads were quiet and surrounded by beautiful countryside. Our bikes were great, and we had a guide riding with us as well as a support car. These guys are passionate about showing people this fascinating, unspoilt area of Romania and are very knowledgeable, extremely helpful and great fun. We saw fascinating places that we would not have known about otherwise...including bio farms, traditional villages and practices and we met a lot of interesting locals along the way. Thanks Mihai and Adrian for sharing your knowledge and passion and making this the best cycling trip we have ever done.

Top notch customer service My husband and I had scheduled a cycling trip from Cluj over our honeymoon and unfortunately illness required us to cancel the trip. Mihai, our scheduled guide, was beyond patient with all of my messages and tentative reschedule dates. He was able to work out a personal refund for me last minute and even messaged to check up on my husband's health. Though we were not able to cycle, I wanted to applaud their stellar customer service. The communication and flexibility was second to none.

Brilliant trip - go and do it - see some amazing places Did a 3 day cycle trip with Transylvania Cycling with a small group of confident cyclists, the routes were as requested leading to the Transfăgărășan climb from the north side. Radu and Mihai were brilliant guides and hosts, couldn't have done more to make sure we had a great time, they made the trip so enjoyable and were proud to show off the amazing scenery and culture of Transylvania. Highly recommend Transylvania Cycling if you decide to to a trip like this. Let them know your cycling ability, distances you want to cover, places you want to see and they’ll do the rest. Having a supported and guided ride takes all the stress out the adventure, routes sent to us by .gpx to download to cycle computer. Guest houses we stayed in were top notch, get food, comfy bed, couldn't have been more accommodating. All in all are full and well deserved 5 * rating from me!! 👏👏👍👍

Transylvania Cycling - excellent Mihai from Transylvania Cycling Sibiu provided a fantastic 2-day guided road cycling tour. First day touring a number of traditional villages and spectacular fortified church, and the second day the spectacular Transfagarasan Pass. Transport, food, accommodation all arranged. Friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend using their services (and cycling in Transylvania!).

Amazing 1 day cycling trip through countryside and villages Arriving in Sibiu for a 3 day weekend, I had the mad idea to book a cycling tour despite not being on our bikes for nearly a year! Mihai was brilliant to deal with before we arrived, very prompt, professional and put my mind at rest! He picked us up from our hotel and we headed out into the countryside stopping off at all sorts of interesting historic and cultural points along the way - we really did get to see the "real" romania away from the city. Mihai was a superb guide - the bikes/accessories etc were all in great condition and despite me having to walk up one of the hills alongside my bike, he never made us feel anything but comfortable. This was a highlight for our trip to Romania and we would seriously consider training and coming back on a longer bike trip with Mihai. Definitley recommend booking if you want something a little special with a great guide and away from the hustle and bustle.
